1st Place in County -- The Sellwood Storm -- Midget American Team
The Sellwood Storm “Midget American League” baseball team, shown above, took first place in Clackamas County Junior Baseball tournament in July, and received a “number 1” seed into the Junior Baseball of Oregon's Midget American League Championship. The Storm ran into very stiff competition at State and placed 5th. But 5th out of 138 teams in midget American Junior Baseball of Oregon is still mighty impressive. The team’s season record was 32-4-1. The team is also coached by Vic Rust, with assistant coach Ryan Ishimaru (shown in rear). The players are shown, with their Clackamas trophy, in Woodburn: Mitch Bolster, Taylor Griffin. Duncan Hildreth, Devin Ishimaru, Peter Johnson, Jack Kelly, Drew Niman, Riley Oh, Ronnie Rust, Riley Stromvig, and Jamison White. Batboy is Micah Stromvig.

2007 Volunteer of the Year Award

Thanks to the many individuals who submitted the beautifully written Volunteer of the Year nomination last spring. Standing among the other nominees at PGE Park was such an honor. We had a chance to talk with the Founders of Friends of Baseball about the nomination process. They told us the spirit of our community league stood out among the many incredible nominations they received. We owe our community so much gratitude for walking the "It's About Community" talk-what a proud accomplishment for us all.

One tremendous benefit of the Volunteer of the Year award-a grant for $1,000 from Friends of Baseball! After much consideration, we decided to use the grant funding to improve our website for better communication, accessible baseball/softball resources, and ease of use programs-such as online registration, video instruction links, and calendar applications for our coaches.

Matrix Concept has tailored our site to the needs of volunteers and participants in our league. We will continue to build on the resources we provide as the season draws closer. We also plan to highlight both the Cleveland HS Baseball and Softball programs, as well as local college team links. The goal is to encourage baseball enthusiasm and opportunity for the older players in the league, as participation trends show a decline in participation for players 12 & up.
